Illegal Immigration / Guantamano Bay

Illegal immigrants are flooding in through the United States southern border by the millions. This is mainly because the government does not protect our southern border well, and some areas have nothing more than a rope or a small barbed wire fence. Some say we should secure our borders because the illegal immigrants from Mexico and Central America are taking citizens’ jobs and not paying taxes while getting all the benefits in the meantime. I agree with this, but I would like to take it a step further. If these were the only issues occurring, I do not think anyone would see the need for change. If you look at the past, immigrants have been coming here illegally for years, and if the issues of them taking jobs and not paying taxes are the only things people see occurring, nothing will change. The difference now is terrorism. I think a lot of people overlook the fact that a major way terrorists are entering into the United States is by slipping into Mexico and then simply walking over. As Americans, we cannot sit idle and allow terrorists who have killed thousands of innocent Americans just walk into the United Sates unquestioned, unregulated, and unwatched. Currently, Barack Obama is working with the Castro Regime to shut down Guantanamo Bay. They will release thousands of terrorists to their homelands only to see them go to Mexico for vacation and then to find them in a major city such as Chicago or Detroit setting off bombs and killing innocent Americans. So, keep this in mind in the upcoming elections. We need more people running who understand what is going on and what needs to be fixed. If our government refuses to build us a wall and give us the protection we need, then I believe we should do it ourselves. How? you may ask. This can be done by buying up all the land on the border and building up whatever we can in order to make it more difficult for unauthorized people to get across. We owe it to both our children and our children's children to protect the land that our parents and grandparents protected for us. This includes continuing the embargo with Cuba by not buying any of their exports. By purchasing their exports, you are supporting the Castro Regime. Also, we must call our representatives to inform them that we want a secure border. We must tell them that if they do not build us one, we will build our own, and we will make sure that they will be out of a job next election if they do not do so. It is sad, but this is what our country has come to. I see no other option but this to get America back on its feet.

Why You Should Vote

I have heard many different arguments pertaining to the topic of voting. Some say since the Electoral College does not properly represent the population's decision when voting for President, they have decided not to participate. Others have told me that Voting is the least patriotic thing you can do as a citizen of the United States. I understand that both of these views come from the more liberal biased media that is working to get the citizens of the United States to conform to the idea that their vote does not matter. But in this, I disagree. The right to vote given to us by our nation's previous overseers, I would argue, is the greatest thing they did for us. Keeping this right at times has not been easy. But it is our destiny. We must keep in mind that it is not easy to be back to back World War champions, but we must know that it is no mistake that we won. We accomplished it through the power of the American people. And these soldiers did not go on vacation when the wars were going on. They fought. They fought so that you and I would not have to. They fought to preserve our rights, further our rights, and improve our quality of life. I cannot imagine coming home from battle and having my son tell me. " Do I wanna vote? Nah I'm good, voting is not that important anyway". Or the classic "I am too cool to vote, voting is for old people". These are common misconceptions our younger generations, including my own, seem to have. I would encourage all parents who have the understanding, to encourage your kids to vote. Not brainwash them for the sake of one party or the other, but to teach them to make their own decisions.  Because the United States should be a nation where the people's voices are heard and answered. Not a nation where the people are told what they "should" want and that is what they will get. Now, the other point made by some that voting is the "least patriotic thing you can do" is sadly quite flawed. A majority of the supporters of this belief are well read individuals who seem to be fans of Neil Postman's "Amusing Ourselves to Death". In this book Postman talks about his beliefs on voting. I think a major misunderstanding that people have is they take his opinion that if it is not patriotic, it does not matter, and since it does not matter I am not going to do it. This slippery slope has confused many well meaning educated citizens of the United Sates into not voting. What Postman is trying to say that voting once every four years for your president is not doing your part. Instead of encouraging people not to vote, he is doing the contrary. He is encouraging people to get more involved in politics. Not to just vote, but know what and who you are voting for, where you stand on hot-topic issues, and to help the people you want in office to get there by campaigning. In short, I would encourage you no matter how old, no matter how important, to vote. My challenge for you is to strive to be a well-informed voter and in a sense "Earn the right to be heard".
